Kits-n-Bits fit FORS compliant equipment and added extras to a Scania tractor unit and tipper trailer for Tarmac in South Wales

One of our most valued clients is Keltruck in Cardiff,  South Wales who are a Scania truck, bus & coach service centre.  This month we were asked to work on one of their trucks due to go out for Tarmac.  The vehicle needed to have FORS compliant equipment fitted as well as a number of added extras fitted.

The Tractor Unit

Lighting

The brand new tractor unit was fitted with black powder coated Kelsa Bars on the cab roof and Redtronic beacons on either side of the cab roof.

Two hideaway led strobes were fitted into the front grille.

Cameras

Cameras are a FORS requirement to improve all round driver vision.

Two cameras, one on each side of the vehicle, were fitted near the step unit.

The cameras display the view down each side of the vehicle on a 7” dash mounted monitor in the cab ensuring blind spots are minimised. The monitor is a five input unit allowing the views from all five cameras on the vehicle to be displayed simultaneously.  Nick made a bespoke bracket for the monitor, which enabled it to be fitted into the existing double din pocket.

We also fitted a front camera high in the middle of the screen.  All camera footage is recorded onto a 500 gig hard drive enough to record a month of normal driving. Footage can be used in evidence if there is ever an incident with the vehicle.

Sensors

There are 3 sensors fitted down the length of the near side of the tractor unit. These are automatically activated at speeds below 14 mph or when the vehicle left indicator has been activated. A small LED display in the cab will flash red if anything is detected and the driver alerted by a beeper.

In addition to the above we also fitted a High Voltage Detector into the cab

The Tipper Trailer

The Tipper trailer has been fitted with a reverse camera and warning beeper, which are relayed to the cab using suzi connectors.

Four more sensors on the tipper trailer, which alert the diver in the cab on another led unit, complete the sensor set ensuring that blind spots are minimised right down the entire length of the vehicle. These are again activated at speeds under 14mph and when the left indicator is in use.

Safety first

Companies like Tarmac take the safety of the public very seriously.  The five cameras, 7 side sensors, audible warning alerts and side safety bars along with the beacons and strobes all help to ensure that vulnerable road users will be safer.
