S5/S5+ Tracker tech update
We get asked to fit trackers to all types of vehicles here at KnB, not just the usual suspects like performance cars and motorhomes but even quad bikes, HGV’s and plant equipment when insurers insist (or peace of mind is wanted!).
Tracker specification varies depending on the insurer’s rating for each vehicle or the customer’s needs and we are always happy to chat about which system may serve you best, but increasingly over the last 12 months we have been asked to fit the highest specification of tracker to more and more types of vehicles and as the industry heads in this direction it’s pleasing to see that the technology is continuing to develop to suit our customers’ needs.
By ‘highest specification’ we are talking about the S5 and S5+ (formerly cat 5) trackers that used to be reserved for supercars and A Class motorhomes of a certain value, we’ve blogged about these in the past and for an in depth read just click the link here but essentially these come with a level 1 police response and key theft protection and it’s the key theft protection that we’d like to talk about today.
Some of our customers have groaned about this in the past as this means carrying around a separate fob whenever the vehicle is to be used. The fob cannot be attached to their keyrings for security reasons and although it is smaller than a credit card it’s another thing to remember when leaving the house as without it the security centre will know that the vehicle is moving but potentially without the owners’ permission and this will trigger an alert phone call or text to check that all is well – until now!
Those whizz kids over at our tracking solutions partner, Global Telemetrics, have developed a smartphone app that will remove the need for carrying any additional hardware and let’s face it – who leaves the house without their mobile phone these days?
Just make sure that the app is always running in the background and you can return to the days of carefree motoring, especially handy when your outfit doesn’t have any pockets (we are thinking football kits, elegant ballgowns, fancy dress etc)!
